feelswithcaps’s songs pair melancholic and introspective lyrics with dreamy synths and energetic beats. The band describes their sound as 'dancing through melancholy landscapes’ while MTV called it the ''perfect pop to sad-dance to in your bedroom’'. The Helsinki-based Alt-Pop trio consists of singer and songwriter Sofi, keyboardist Mikael and drummer/producer Aleksi. The band’s first EP ‘Butterflies’ quickly led to the band playing at Helsinki’s celebrated Flow Festival and being championed by some of Finland’s key tastemakers like YleX, Radio Helsinki and Bassoradio. Since then, feelswithcaps’ music has travelled far beyond their home country, most recently into the season finale of new Netflix show ‘Tiny Pretty Things’, alongside the likes of Billie Eilish, MUNA and Harry Styles.
After taking their time to hone their sound, 2020 saw feelswithcaps releasing their debut album ‘Absence’, which Sofi describes as “all my diaries put into one album - growing up and struggling through your twenties”. Sofi writes all the songs for the band and says: “My songs are a bit like skeletons and Myky and Aleksi bring all the flesh blood and muscles and together we make that body move.” Jazz pianist and synth enthusiast Mikael delivers some unexpected harmonies and synth tracks that affect their overall sound a lot. He’s interested in Japanese culture and anime, and when he's a bit tipsy, he tells his bandmates to close their eyes and listen to music such as Earth, Wind and Fire. Aleksi on the other hand is big into techno. He likes the idea of music being hypnotic, not always having to be all highlights and explosions but instead letting the music get into a zone. The drummer and producer combines acoustic and electronic sounds and is often carrying a recording device with him to capture interesting samples.
Since releasing their debut album, feelswithcaps have supported Elder Island live, released a track via French label Kitsuné Musique, and were picked for Music Finland’s Artist Accelerator Program. The band will kick off 2021 with a remix by British DJ and producer lau.ra and a rework of their first single ‘Weightless’.
